Having A Healthy Pregnancy
Dear Begin Out The Best In Your Child,
Two months ago I found out I was pregnant! My husband and I are in our late twenty's and thought it would be the prefect time for us to raise this child. He works in construction, while I'm a stay at home child care provider. I really enjoy reading your magazine, so I thought I should write in because I am a little confused about pregnancy itself.
So far, this pregnancy has been such an amazing experience, besides all the morning sickness I have been getting. I have been getting second thoughts about this whole situation, I want to raise this child for sure, I just want to make sure it is as healthy as possible. I want to make sure that I don't do anything to harm the baby in any way possible. Could you please help me with how my husband and I can make sure this will be a healthy baby. What can we expect during the trimesters? What should I be eating? How can we be 100% ready when the baby comes along?
Sincerely,
Chloe Charlotte

Dear Chloe,
Congratulations on your pregnancy! That is very exciting news for both you and your husband. It's good that you are in your first trimester and have been worried about the health of your baby. I would be honoured to assist you in this wonderful time in your life.
It is very important that you and your husband both look after this baby. You first of all want to minimize all the stress that might arise when you are pregnant, this is not good for the health of you and your baby. Take prenatal vitamins and calcium vitamins, this will ensure the baby will be healthy. During the second trimester (usually 28 weeks), you will be exacting to feel your baby move. This stag is especially important for you to be eating healthy. Eating right is one of the best ways to nurture your baby's growth and development. According to the Ontario Food Guide you should be consuming three balanced meals a day with snacks in between, add two to three Food Guide Servings a day (when pregnant and breastfeeding to supply calories for your baby's growth), and always drink water regularly. And remember, a during a normal, healthy pregnancy, the mother usually gains about 30-35 pounds, so don't be worried about the weight. Avoid foods like raw fish, under cooked meats, and unpasteurized milk products and juices. Limit your amount of caffeine per day to about 300mg. In this letter, I will attach a Ontario Food Guide on the back for you.
During the third trimester you will be feeling a lot of kicking. These last months your baby will be still growing, so make sure you eat healthy, get a decent amount of sleep every night, and do light exercises. Take calcium and prenatal vitamins to minimize body cramps. At this time, your body will be getting ready to deliver the baby.
Before the baby comes along, just make sure you have the basics. By this, I mean diapers, stroller, crib, blankets, car seat, etc. Things like this are important to keep your baby healthy. The only thing I would extremely recommend is baby proofing your house. Make sure everything is prefect for when your bundle of joy comes home.
I hope this helped you, and I hope everything goes well through your pregnancy. This is a time you will never forget.
All the best,
Erin Reid
