Parenting Styles
The comics below illustrate the different parenting styles:
As you can see from these comic strips, there are only three different parenting styles; permissive, authoritative, and authoritarian.
Permissive Parenting Style
Permissive parenting style is demonstrating a low level of control. This means that the parent doesn't have much control of the child. The child will rule themselves, while the parent doesn't care much. In the illustration above, it shows a young boy that doesn't get he's way. After the father tells the boy it's time to go home, the boy refuses. This leads to the boy damaging store property, and the father laughing about it, and gives into his son and let's him stay longer. The effects by raising your child with a permissive parenting style will lead to your child becoming immature, irresponsible, or having impulsive behaviour.
Authoritative Parenting Style
Authoritative parenting style is demonstrating high levels of control. This involves warm, and heart felt discipline. The parent will tell the child what they did wrong, but in a positive, loving way. This is taking time to talk to the child about what they did wrong, while being loving, and say what they can do to improve their behaviour. The effects that authoritative parenting style will have on the child will be the child trusting the parent, high self control, and more independence.
Authoritarian Parenting Style:
Authoritarian parenting style is demonstrating high level of control. This parenting style is more physical than the other styles. When the child doesn't follow rules, the parent will use punishments. This could involve smashing, or spanking. This could be on the borderline of physical abuse. The effects this will have on a child is lower self-esteem, and will become scared and quiet to the parents. The child could also become aggressive towards others.
